Brax3 is a mobile device developed by Robert Braxman, also known as “The Internet Privacy Guy” on YouTube. Another notable limitation is that while the BraX3 lets you install another OS, the only other custom ROM currently supported is LunarOS, with Ubuntu Touch currently in development. Popular privacy-oriented Android ROMs like GrapheneOS and CalyxOS are not supported at the time of writing. As more users and researchers have tested the BraX3, its security model and real-world performance have come under increasing scrutiny.
A detailed third-party analysis by Unchained Innovations highlights concerns at the system level. Their team found that some basic protections, such as restricting access to sensitive app data and clipboard content, were not a part of the design from the start and were only introduced later. Their review also details flaws within iodéOS and LineageOS, including maintenance delays and security lapses, making it less reliable for privacy-conscious users.
User feedback also points to reliability issues in everyday use. One customer experienced random crashes, poor touch response, and an inconsistent typing experience. Complaints about hardware quality from users describe the phone as bulky, poorly assembled, and lacking the polish expected from modern smartphones.
Finally, several users have raised concerns about the post-purchase experience. One Reddit user had trouble receiving responses from customer support, explaining that the company wouldn’t refund the amount even after they returned the device.

Why Critics Object To Braxman Specifically
In addition to the criticism surrounding the BraX3 phone, Rob Braxman’s own claims about privacy and security, as well as his marketing approach, have been repeatedly challenged by experts and established platforms in the space.
GrapheneOS has publicly accused Braxman of spreading misinformation about their platform and other technologies to promote his own insecure products. In a detailed 2026 forum response, GrapheneOS describes Braxman as promoting "highly inaccurate information" on topics like client-side scanning and AI threats, while misrepresenting the open-source project as "dying" or "Google-shill" in his videos.
GrapheneOS attributed this to Braxman's pattern of attacking rivals with technical fabrications and personal smears, including supporting harassment from notorious sites like Kiwi Farms, to drive sales of his ecosystem.
Some of the criticism also stems from specific statements made by Braxman. He and his team have claimed that their messaging platform, Brax.Me is end-to-end-encrypted, however GrapheneOS clearly pointed out that this is a false claim.
In multiple conversations shared publicly on X, he claims that older devices running custom ROMs can continue receiving “full security updates” well beyond their official support window, while also acknowledging that firmware updates are outside his control.
This contradicts how Android security is generally understood. While custom ROMs can continue delivering OS updates, they can’t maintain vendor firmware once official support ends.
