We use public key cryptography (PKI) for subscriber authentication and authorization instead of usernames and passwords.

SIM swaps occur when scammers compromise an insider at your carrier, or use stolen identifying information to pretend to be you. At Cape, we don’t use numeric passcodes or personal identity questions, which could be easily broken via social engineering or a data breach. You can only transfer your phone number to another SIM using your private encryption key that lives on your device alone.

Protection

Cape prevents these attacks using a  proprietary signaling proxy. Location update and call redirect requests are verified through a secure, authenticated connection to the Cape app, which allows us to block malicious signaling attacks.
